PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of driving a plasma display panel, which improves contrast. SOLUTION: The peak potential of a driving pulse to be applied for driving a display cell that has a phosphor layer including a phosphor material and a secondary electron emission material at intersections of a plurality of column electrodes and a plurality of row electrodes in a plasma display panel (PDP) is set as follows. The peak potential of a reset pulse to be applied to the row electrodes for reset discharge of the display cell at the top subfield of each unit display period is set lower than the peak potential of a sustain pulse to be applied to the column electrodes for sustain discharge of only a display cell in a lighting mode state in each subfield.
