Pyridylmethyl phenoxy nicotinates - analgesics, tranquillisers antipyretics, antiinflammatories and antirheumatics

Title cpds. are of formula (I): (where R = 1 or 2 opt. substituents selected from lower alkyl, trihalomethyl, alkoxy or halogens). The cpds. are prepd. by esterification of 3-pyridyl methanol (III) with a phenoxy nicotinic acid. In an example 109g (III) was treated with 290g 2-(3-trifluoromethyl phenoxy)nicotinoyl chloride in benzene and triethylamine to give (I) where R = CF3 in 3-posn.
