Sulpiride of formula (I) : and its acid addn. salts are prepd. by methylating a cpd. of formula (II): (where R1 = H; R is alkoxy, halogen, OH, NH2 or -NH-Z; Z = monovalent metal) into the corresp. cpd. (II; R1 = CH3) and then treating this cpd. with halosulphonic acid, then to obtain (IV) : which is condensed with (V) : (where Y is NH2 or halogen, depending on the value of R in (IV)).
