Drive transmitting coupling in circular knitting machines - with piston disengaging stepwise drive of program cam to needle cylinder

In a disengageable drive transmitting coupling between the program cam drum and the needle cylinder on a circular knitting machine, the stepwise movement of the program cam is disengaged by causing a piston to lock two spring loaded cams on the coupling and release wedge rollers and the coupling. When the piston is retracted, the springs on the cams cause the rollers to wedge the coupling so that the drive is transmitted. Thus the stepwise drive of the program cam to the needle cylinder may be interrupted by activating the cylinder.
