<p>1390605 Retro-reflective material BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd 1 March 1972 [1 March 1971] 5659/71 Heading B2E A retro-reflective material comprises spherical beads of a transparent or translucent material (especially glass) of refractive index 1.7 to 2.0 distributed in a mono-layer over, and embedded in, the surface of a plastics matrix, each bead being embedded to a depth equal to or greater than its diameter and there being a window in the surface of the matrix above each bead. The beads, their distribution over the matrix and the material of the matrix may be as described in Specification 1389021 and additionally the matrix may especially be plasticised PVC or a laminate of patterned PVC and clear PVC. The embedding of the beads is effected by means of a tool which does not cause any embossing of the beaded surface, such as a plain roller, platen or plate. A protective layer or coating, which may be coloured, may be applied over the beaded surface.</p> |
