Pipeline reinforcing elements - for preventing crack propagation

In a pipe line having a series of mutually spaced reinforcing elements round the pipe wall, each element consists of a structure of ductile matl. of high tensile strength, having a geometric course of its shape which is not constant and/or is discontinuous in the axial and/or radial direction. More esp. the reinforcing elements consist of a series of adjacently situated rings. The reinforcing elements stop the straight line propagation of cracks along a pipeline or deflect their course so that the crack energy is dissipated or absorbed. The pipe wall and the reinforcing elements are pref. fabricated wholly from steel and rings or sleeves may be welded on or shrunk on.
