<p>A friction plate is keyed on the hub of the rotating wheel (22) but with a limited possibility of axial movement. By providing a number of friction pads 2, 3 acting on both sides of the friction plate simultaneously the braking effect is considerably increased and due to lower operating temperatures the life of the pads is prolonged. The arrangement is most suitable for heavy duty applications, such as buses. The disc nearest the hub have cooling apertures, which ensure that pressurised air from a cylinder flows alongside the discs and between the adjacent brake disc components.</p> |
