<p>A method of making vessels, tanks, drums etc. of composite matl., esp. of carbon fibres embedded in plastics, uses a hollow internal mould or former. This former is subsequently removed, at least partially, by chemical or electrochemical methods. Pref. an aluminium former is used, and is later removed or reduced in thickness by etching, either in a bath with the outer face of the vessel protected against the etching liq., or by connecting the vessel into a circuit of flowing etching liq. Method is esp. useful in aerospace technology, where high strength and min. wt. are required. Weight is minimised and the range of uses is widened.</p> |
