Double walled tank for holding dangerous liquids - tracer liquid flows in labyrinth channels between walls to monitor for leaks

The inner tank (13) is constructed from smooth rolled steel plate for the body with dished ends welded on. Pipework inspection covers and similar are also attached. The outer shell (17) forming the double wall, has its body rolled from plate having protuberances (19) on its inner face, this material being similar to chequered plate. These formed plates are held against the inner tank using straps and welded into position; dished ends are then welded to the body. The protuberances cover approximately one third of the surface of the plate, the remainder forming labyrinthine channels (15) for a tracer liquid used to detect leaks.
