1,132,578. Heat exchangers. SOC. ANON DES USINES CHAUSSON. 1 Dec., 1965 [2 Dec., 1964], No. 51073/65. Heading F4S. [Also in Division B3] A method of making a heat exchanger, particularly a radiator for a heat engine, from a plurality of identical hollow elements each defining at least two terminal chambers 1 (only one shown) interconnected by channels 2, in which the elements are joined together in a row with adjoining side walls of the corresponding chambers abutting and then perforating the abutting walls by punching to provide com munication between the chambers. The hollo elements are made by soldering together stamings or by soldering together flat sheets over part of their surfaces and inflating the unjoined parts between dies. The sheets are aluminium, which may have an aluminium-silicon coating. The walls are perforated by a punch 6 which has a square conical point. The leading end of the punch 9 has a smaller included angle than the part 8, which has cutting ribs 7 along its corners. Alternatively the faces of the punch may be arcuately concave in transverse cross-section. |
