The down pipe (1) is positioned below the discharge hole (2) of a fodder conveyor (3). This opening (2) can be opened and closed by a sliding closure piece (4). The fodder conveyor (3) can be in the form of a chain or screw. The down pipe (1) contains a pipe seal in the form of a balloon (5) which may be made of rubber. The balloon (5) is connected to the outlet of a compressed air pipe (6) which leads out through a hole (7) in the down pipe. The compressed air pipe is preferably in the form of a tube. The balloon (5) and the tube can be raised and lowered inside the downpipe by means of a chain (8). The vertical down pipe (1) is filled with feedstuff and opens out into a feeding trough.
