Drafting device having conveyors forming drafting zone - one conveyor having low needle population which penetrates sliver in drafting zone

The device includes two endless conveyors having parallel runs forming a drafting zone through which the sliver passes. At least one conveyor is formed from two parallel endless chains between which extend articulated bars carrying needles which project into the drafting zone and penetrate the sliver. The surface of each bar adjacent the drafting zone in cylindrically convex and the bars in the drafting zone form almost a continuous surface. The population of the needles in the drafting zone is low. The drafting device is cheap to produce and provides effective drafting at high speed because of the reduced needle population.
