1,037,173. Programmed control of turbines. RICHARDSONS, WESTGARTH & CO. Ltd. Jan. 29, 1963 [Feb. 5, 1962], No. 4340/62. Heading G3N. In a programmed apparatus for running a steam turbine up to speed, the programme is modified on the occurrence of a temporary decrease in the steam supply to avoid a rapid surge in speed on correction of the decrease. As shown, a time base servo 24 varies the output of a time base 16 comprising a variable ratio transformer, through a servo motor 22. The output F4 from the transformer is fed as a speed reference signal to a known closed loop control apparatus 20 controlling the steam supply to a turbine 12. The speed of the turbine is sensed by a device 10, the output of which is compared in a time-speed servo 14 with a speed reference signal F1 from the time base. When the difference between the reference and actual speed signals is outside of a permissible deviation limit the servo 14 control a servo motor 18 to reverse the programme from the time base 16 until the deviation fall within the permissible limits. |
