The pump controlling float switch is intended to be effective at liquid level changes, but to remain inoperative in fault conditions concerning both the pump operation and the liquid level proper. The switch has a housing secured to a cable. The switching mechanism is actuated by a tilting movement of the float switch housing about a pivotal point in the cable length. The switch housing is filled with suitable material, such as sand or kieselguhr of approximately 5mm particle size, or with a pasty grease, thickened liquid etc. This material moves according to the tilting of the switch housing and acts upon a diaphragm of rubber, metal etc.
