The parachute for an aircraft loads has a square area (2) on the crown and trapezoidal side sections (4) tapering to the load attachment lines. The side sections are separated from the crown by narrow slots (12) which provide stability and prevent the load from swinging. The cross sectional area of the slots is less than 2% of the area of the crown and provides a vertical component of airflow to ensure that the load is dropped in a vertical setting.
