1536561 Control systems for heated garments; inverting E T SKINNER & CO Ltd 6 April 1976 [6 Jan 1975] 473/75 Headings H2H and H2F A system for heating a diving suit comprises a power source producing a relatively high alternating voltage at a high frequency which is fed through a step down transformer to the heating elements of the suit so that these are supplied at a relatively low voltage, the high frequency enabling a reduction to be made in the physical size of the transformer. A source 1 of direct current is converted into 200-300 V A.C. at 25 KHz by an inverter 2 the output transformer 14 of which is connected to a step down transformer 19 carried by the diver. The heating elements 24 25 of the diver's suit are energized at 10 volts A.C. from the secondary windings 23 of the transformer 19. The D.C. source 1 is connected to the inverter 2 by a switch 4, the power output of the inverter being controllable by ON-OFF operation of the switch 4 which may be controlled by means of a potentiometer 20 built into the diver's suit. Alternatively, control of the heating of the suit may be effected by manual or thermostatic control of a thyristor in series with the primary winding 18 of the transformer 19, or by bias control of the inverter. |
