The machine is faster because not just one but several rods are set into rotation in order to be cut and sharpened before being brought to the grinding wheels which simultaneously cut and sharpen them. The machine comprises a grooved rotating cylinder (1) in whose grooves the rods to be cut are placed, and rotated by a plurality of belts (4) in such a way that their peripheral speed is in the opposite direction to that of a plurality of axial grinding wheels (5); means being provided for bringing the grinding wheels to the rods when these are already in rotation. <IMAGE>
