Process for producing compounds derived from 9-hydroxyellipticine

The compounds of formula I in which R is an alkyl group and X is a halogen atom are prepared by quaternisation of the nitrogen atom in position 2 of 9-hydroxyellipticine by means of a compound RX. By ion exchange, the derivatives in which X is an acetoxy group are obtained. The compounds of formula I and their derivatives have an antitumour activity, in particular against murine leukaemia L 1210 and murine leukaemia P 388. <IMAGE>
