The process is used to lay highway surface markings, e.g. white lines defining traffic lanes, complete with proud reflective nodules to a definite pattern, and combining hard wearing with anti-skid properties. Initially the white line is sprayed, the nodules are then arranged in rows, and finally the rows are placed on the line in a direction normal to that of impinging light. The longitudinal interval between rows may be less than the length of the shadow cast by a nodule in the preceeding row. The nodules have height of not less than 0.9 mm, and the transverse and longitudinal nodule spacing is not greater than 5 and 12 times nodule dia. respectively. Nodules may be installed by a hollow perforated roller with compressed air used to attach and release nodule positioned at perforations. |
