The lifejacket or similar device with an airborne location indicator is basically conventional but embodies a recess housing a (deflated) balloon connected to an inflator. A line links the balloon to the jacket. A battery is provided for a visual/audio signalling device on or in the balloon. The recess has a sealing cover fragile enough to be broken by the inflating balloon. Inflation is initiated by impact with the water. Power to the signalling device may be transmitted through the holding line. An operating mechanism is fitted to the jacket.
