<p>The heater has the water passed through a coiled pipe projecting into a gas discharge chamber. The heater has switched anode and cathode electrodes,with the coiled pipe heated by the cathode heating effect during the gas discharge. Pref. the coiled pipe itself acts as the cathode, with the anode provided as a coating around the inside walls of the discharge chamber. Alternatively the coiled pipe surrounds a central cathode and acts as the anode or is surrounded by a coaxial coil both coils acting as an anode, with a cathode plate between the two coils. The water heater exhibits a good operating gradient and is hence readily controlled, with less heat loss to the surroundings than if a resistance heating element was used.</p> |
