The life of cut flowers is extended by placing them in a soln. contg. 1 g. alum and 1 g. sugar in 1 l. of water. The same soln. may be used to spray flowering plants. The same claim also covers a skin cream contg. 100 g. nacre, 100 g. lemon juice and 2 g. alum. This is useful for preventing wrinkles and blackheads.
