A method for manufacturing transparent units for a compound reflecting system, whereby each unit has an uncoated, first, essentially hemispherical surface part, oriented for incoming light and a plurality of light beam focusing and reflecting means which comprise adjacently placed micro-spheres outwardly coated with a reflecting coating. According to the method, a heated sheet L of a thermoplastic, transparent polymer material of a certain thickness is calendered forcedly through the nip between a pair of forming cylinders 10, 12, 10', 12', rotating in opposite directions. The cylinders have forming cut-outs 10a, 12a, 10b, 12b. An essentially plane intermediate product is created, consisting of a sheet 14 which is considerably thinner than said certain thickness and having opposed surfaces from which elevations 50, 52 protrude, aligned in pairs and formed in accordance with said cut-outs, and to coat and fixate a single layer of transparent micro-spheres at one surface of said intermediate product such that a planar, reflecting system is formed. |
