PURPOSE:To easily instal and maintain a heat exchanger by dividing a catalyst bed into a plurality of parts, attaching a starting material feed pipe to the lowermost division, and setting the heat exchanger in the lowermost reactive gas transport pipe to well perform gas exchange. CONSTITUTION:An SO2-contg. gas is fed to the 1st divided chamber 12 from feed pipe 20 and passes through the 1st catalyst bed 16 downward. At this time, the temp. of the reactive gas is raised by the conversion of SO2 into SO3, and the gas is cooled with heat exchanger 26, enters the 2nd divided chamber 13, and passes through catalyst bed 17 downward to convert part of the uncoverted gas. The gas enters the 3d divided chamber 14 through transport pipe 22 to convert part of the unconverted gas. At this time, the gas is cooled to a desired temp. with a cooling gas fed to pipe 22. The gas is further cooled with a cooling gas in upper transport pipe 23 and enters the 4th divided chamber 15 to convert almost all of the unconverted gas, and it is introduced into economizer 24 through exhaust pipe 25, cooled, and taken out an product SO3. |
