PURPOSE:To form a desired carburizing atmosphere in a short time by lowering and raising the temp. of a gas carburizing furnace while the furnace is held filled with an inert gas since the shutdown till the startup of the gas carburizing furnace. CONSTITUTION:In the temp. lowering time in a gas carburizing furnace and the temp. raising time in succession to this from the shutdown until the startup of said furnace, an inert gas such as gaseous N2 or Ar is supplied continuously into the furnace. If there is a pause time since the shutdown till the startup, an inert gas such as gaseous N2 or Ar is supplied during the time since the shutdown till prior to the pause and after the startup continuously and the inert gas or dried ordinary temp. air suppressing the oxidation in the furnace is supplied during the pause, respectively continuously into the furnace. At the point of the time when the temp. in the furnace has attained a prescribed degree, the supply of the inert gas is stopped and a converted gas or a dropping agent is supplied and seasoning is started, whereby a desired carburizing atmosphere is formed. |
