PURPOSE:To obtain a recording material capable of rapidly forming an intense color with a good fastness of the resultant color image, by using a specified benzoquinone derivative as a color developer for a methine base coloring matter, in a pressure-sensitive or a heat-sensitive recording material. CONSTITUTION:A benzoquinone derivative of the general formula I (wherein R is an alkyl group, an aralkyl group or a cycloalkyl group; R' is a phenyl group, a naphthyl group, an alkyl group or an aralkyl group) is used as an oxidizing color developer in combination with a methine base coloring matter of the general formula II (wherein each of X, Y, Z is a phenyl group, a naphthyl group, a beta- styryl group or an aromatic heterocyclic ring residue which may be substd. and the three groups may be the same or different). According as the objective material is a pressure-sensitive recording paper or a heat-sensitive recording paper, a method of producing the material is appropriately selected and a pigment or other components are added as required. |
