PURPOSE:To enable to set an accurate home position, by providing an exciting means by which a stepping motor for laterally feeding a carriage is driven by at least a predetermined number of steps and then excitation for fixing is conducted at a specified excitational phase. CONSTITUTION:When initializing a printer, the stepping motor 1 is excited by a predetermined number of steps suitable for the carriage 4 to move over the entire length of a guide shaft 5, whereby the carriage 10 is brought into contact with a stopper 10. At this time, the motor 1 is not rotated due to off-synchronism, and after a predetermined number of steps, excitation for fixing is conducted at a specified stop excitational phase, and the carriage 4 is returned to its home position by the self-sustaining force of the motor 1, and is stopped. The home position can be correctly set by adjusting the position of a plate 8. Accordingly, the home position can be accurately set with a simple construction. |
