The present invention concerns an automatic method and machine for carrying out printing on a medium. The machine according to the invention essentially comprises a stand 1 supporting conveyor belts 6, an assembly of drive rollers 9 of the medium to be printed, a printing cylinder 11, an inking system 17 for this cylinder, rolls 18 for ejecting the printed medium, a first count-up/count-down counter 22 on which the distance between the leading edge of the medium and the first printing on the latter is displayed, a second count-up/count-down counter 23 on which the distance or pitch between the following printings is displayed, and a programmable automaton 30 controlling the operating cycle of the machine.
