PURPOSE:To obtain a contact lens having superior oxygen permeability and enabling long-time wear by using a specified acetylene polymer contg. silicon. CONSTITUTION:A contact lens is made of a polymer obtd. by polymerizing a monomer represented by the formula (where R1 is H or -CH3, and R2 is -CH3, -C2H5 or -C3H7). The monomer is polymerized by soln. polymn. or other method, and the polymer is precipitated and purified with methanol or the like. The resulting polymer is cast, and the casting is passed through cutting, polishing and finishing stages to obtain a contact lens. This lens can be used as it is, yet it may be made hydrophilic by plasma treatment. The contact lens has superior oxygen permeability and can supply enough oxygen for the cornea. It has superior workability such as machinability or polishability and satisfactory power to correct one's sight. |
