PURPOSE:To prevent fusion, deformation, etc. of a ribbon and extend the life of a print head or the like by bringing the ribbon into contact with a roll wetted with a prescribed compound. CONSTITUTION:A protective layer consisting of an organic fluorine or silicon compound is formed on the surface, which is brought into contact with a roll 3 wetted with a liquid of said compound and faces a thermal print head H, of a print ribbon 1 which is fed by a ribbon feeding mechanism 2 of a ribbon cartridge. Thus, the thermal resistance, the permeability resistance, and the lubricity of the ribbon 1 are improved and the water repellency and dirt-proof property are fed to prevent fusion and deformation of the ribbon due to heating by the head H, and the ribbon 1 is wound up well, and further, the life of the head H is extended. In case that the ribbon is a magnetic tape, similar effects are attained.
