PURPOSE:To attain the interchangeability between long-time and short-time cassettes by forming a recess part to a housing having an approximately equal size to a standard cassette with an open area reaching to the bottom part from a tape loading position. CONSTITUTION:A housing of a short-time cassette 30 has an approximately equal size as a standard cassette, and a large opening part 39 is formed at the tape loading position of said housing. Then a recess part 39' is opened continuously up to the bottom part of the housing from the part 39. While flanges 31' and 32' of small diameters are set within the housing with a reel shaft distance equal to a standard size. Thus the desired functions and constitutions have specifications approximately equal to the standard ones. Since the recess 39' is provided, a standard optical means for detecting the initiation and the termination of a tape used as it is, and said housing is used in the same manner as a standard one. This attains the interchangeability between the long-time and short-time cassettes without using any complicated adaptor.
