PURPOSE:To enable automatic washing and to attain the conservation of a solvent, by recovering the solvent, which was used in washing a paint supply pipe, and washing the cap of a painting gun with the recovered solvent. CONSTITUTION:A painting gun 10 is operated by using a painting robot to apply painting with predetermined hue to an article to be painted. Thereafter, when painting is performed by a paint having separate hue, the painting gun 10 is at first moved to a predetermined position. A thinner is flowed between a color change valve 12 and a flow passage change-over valve 17 to wash the paint supply pipe 13 therebetween and the thinner after washing is received in a recovery tank 22 from a discharge pipe 18. In the same way, the washing of a paint supply pipe 13' and the recovery of the washing solution are performed and, through piping 24 and a branch pipe 26 and emitted toward a gun cap 11 from a washing gun 27 to wash the same.
