PURPOSE:To switch easily a light source by arranging an insulating an insulating heater in the inside wall of a bracket which encloses light source provided in a picture reading unit that scans an original reciprocally. CONSTITUTION:On the upper part of the main body of a device 10, an original placing glass plate 12 is supported and fixed on the upper part of the box-typed frame 14 which is covered with a cover case 13. In the inside of the frame 14, a picture reading unit 18 that is installed on a carriage substrate 17 is arranged to move reciprocally. In a unit 18, a light source 20 that consists of a tube body which is held in the direction that intersects orthogonally to the scanning direction that illuminates an original A and a photoelectric conversion part 22 that receives a reflecting light are provided. The light source 20 is enclosed through the whole length with an upper face light shading plate 23 and a bracket 24 and in the inside wall of the bracket 24, an insulating heater 25 is arranged. Thus, the switching of the light source makes an easy constitution of the insulating heater device.
