PURPOSE:To increase the durability of a roll by performing a build up by a thermal spraying on the partial face of the surface of metallic roll and by forming uneven pattern. CONSTITUTION:A prebaking is performed by forming a photosensitive resin layer 7 by spraying, etc. on the surface of metallic roll 1. The prescribed pattern is then formed on the resin layer 7 by the baking with ultraviolet irradiation by placing a negative film 8 in close contact. Namely a hardened resin layer A is formed on the part irradiated by ultraviolet ray and unhardened resin layer B is formed on the part where no ultraviolet ray is irradiated. In succession a development is performed by dipping the metal roll 1 in developing solution. In this case the ruggedness as per the pattern of the negative film 8 is formed on the surface of the roll 1. A metallic particle sedimentary layer 2a is formed by performing metallic powder spraying on the roll ground between the resin layer A then. The resin layer A is removed by melting after the thermal spray treatment. The roll 1 having excellent strength, durability and wear resistance is thus obtd.
