PURPOSE:To attain the production of artistic pictures like a black/while drawing, etc. by setting the scanning method on pictures, the standard of decision whether the processing is carried out at the scanning point or not, the decision of a processing point and the processing contents independently of each other. CONSTITUTION:A control microprocessor 1 is connected to an instruction input device 5 consisting of a ROM 3 which stores a control program via a bus 2, a RAM 4 which stores a control variable and a keyboard for input of a control instruction. The picture memories A6 and B7 are connected to the bus 2, and the bus 2 is connected to an external memory device 9 such as a floppy disk, a hard disk, etc. via an interface 8. Thus it is possible to perform the shade-off processing with variation of directivity by changing the scanning direction at a scanning point. Then the shade-off degree can be selected by changing the size of an element pattern. Furthermore the shade-off areas can be designated conversationally with application of a manual scanning method or a calculation scanning method. As a result, an original picture can be changed into an artistic picture like a black/white drawing, etc.
