PURPOSE:To make it possible to adjust suitably the depth of a water- impermeable layer, improve the strength of the water-impermeable layer and treat soil effectively for preventing salt damage in dry ground, by changing the pH of an aqueous solution of a polymer to be applied to the soil. CONSTITUTION:The pH of an aqueous solution of a polymer insolubilizable with ions in soil is changed, and further a dispersion of flocculable inorganic material particles, e.g. ferric hydroxide, is applied to treat the soil. Preferably, an aqueous solution prepared by mixing polyacrylic acid with polyacrylamide at 3:1 weight ratio, etc., is used as the above-mentioned aqueous solution of the polymer.
