PURPOSE:To enable an operator to monitor the contents of communication when a communication mode is started during the operation of a document formation mode by forming a display control means for executing multiwindow display on a CRT and a detecting means for detecting the existence of the start of communication operation. CONSTITUTION:When the document formation mode is set up, a picture plane for forming a document is displayed on the CRT 3. If a telex is terminated during the operation of the document formation mode, information flows in the course of an NCU 9 a MODEM 8 a CCU 7 a floppy disk driving device 5 and the transmitted encoded information is stored in the device 5. The control of said operation is executed by an SCU 6. The transmitted information simultaneously flows in the course of the CCU 7 a character generator 10 a CRT controller 4 so as to be displayed and then applied to a CRT controller 4 as dot-patterned information obtained from the character generator 10. The SCU 6 applies a control signal to a CRT controller 4 to switch the display area of the CRT 3.
