PURPOSE:To improve printing efficiency by forming conductors on a substrate with spacing between them, and by constituting heat generating resistors provided between the conductors with the first resistance region which reaches the surface and with the second resistance region which has a larger resistance value, and by applying an electric current to the surface side. CONSTITUTION:A heat generating resistor 3 consists of a sub-layer film 7 (the second resistance region) and a surface layer film 8 (the first resistance region), and is extended to a common electrode 5 and an individual electrode 6. The sub-layer film 7 is a resistor with a given resistance value. The surface layer film 8 forms a laminated layer on the surface of the sub-layer film 7, and is provided with a resistance value smaller than that of the sub-layer film 7. The surface layer film 8 is preferably made of ruthenium (Ru) which has a high fusion and boiling point and conductivity. The surface of the heat generating resistor 3 is coated with a protective film 9. If a voltage is applied between the electrodes 5 and 6 to create a current in the heat generating resistor 3, heat is generated. Since the resistance value of the surface layer film 8 is smaller than that of the sub-layer film 7, the current is easily created and so is the heat therein. Then, a heat sensitive paper is brought in contact with the surface layer film 8, resulting in a desired printing. |
