The subject of the invention is a method and devices for moving a load under water. A device according to the invention comprises a float which can have ballast added, composed of a rigid envelope 1 which delimits a constant internal volume, of an upper three-way valve 2, one way 21 of which communicates with the said internal volume, another way 22 of which communicates with a source 3 of compressed gas under a pressure greater than the hydrostatic pressure and a third way of which communicates with the outside, and of a lower valve 7 having at least two ways: one way 71 which communicates with the internal volume and one way 72 which communicates with the outside. The manoeuvres of the two valves are synchronised by a toothed belt 11 passing over two toothed pulleys 8, 9 mounted on the axes of the two valves. A safety valve 12 calibrated to 4 bar avoids the overpressure in the envelope exceeding this value. One application is the handling of heavy loads under water by divers. <IMAGE>
