A fixed upper shell in the form of a rectangular box open at the bottom is spaced above a fixed lower shell in the form of another rectangular box having a filtrate outlet pipe and an open top across which is secured a wire mesh screen. Filter paper, extending from a roll at one end to a disposal bin at the other, rests on the upper run of an endless wire screen resting in turn on the fixed screen during filtration. At this time the shells are sealed together by a seal frame telescoping with the upper shell, to which latter liquid to be filtered is supplied. On clogging of the filter paper the following sequence of operations is initiated and carried through electrically: pressure sensing, cut-off of unfiltered liquid, compressed air blow-through (in filtering direction), seal-frame up, paper advance, seal-frame down, resumption of filtration. |
