PURPOSE:To perform painting generating no irregularity by efficiently using paint, by automatically confirming the pattern of a painting article by a sensor and making it possible to emit the paint from a painting gun in matching relation to the shape of the painting article. CONSTITUTION:When a painting article 1 is sent from the side of a sensor 2 at a constant speed by a conveyor, the surface of the painting article 1 is scanned in a zigzag pattern by the sensor 2 because said sensor 2 is repeating rising and falling at a constant cycle. The pattern of the painting article 1 is confiremd by the detection and non-detection signals of the sensor 2 and the position signal due to an encoder and the data from the sensor 2 is stored in a control part at every one pulse of the signal from the encoder. Herein, a painting gun 3 is controlled so as to have the time lag corresponding to the passing time of the painting article between the sensor 2 and the painting gun and the paint can be efficiently sprayed only to the part detected by the sensor 2.
