PURPOSE:To increase porosity by coating a porous metal with slurry prepared by adding nickel powder to a nongelled mixture of methylcellulose and water, and making the slurry gel at the beginning of drying. CONSTITUTION:Methylcellulose and water, or methylcellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and water are mixed without forming gel to form a binder. Nickel powder is added to the binder to prepare slurry 2. The slurry is applied to a metal porous plate 1 in a bath 3 and the thickness of the coated layer is controlled with a slit 4. A coated electrode 5 is fed to a drying tower 7 in which a far infrared heater 6 and a far infrared heater 8 for quick heating are installed, and the binder is made gel at the beginning of drying. Thereby, the porosity is increased. |
