PURPOSE:To prevent a grid from being deformed as well as to make a display function so as not to be utterly damaged by filament burnout and anode burning attributable to the grid deformation, by using a shape memory alloy for the grid of a fluororescent character display tube. CONSTITUTION:Afluorescent character display tube is provided with an envelope 1, an electrode substrate 2, an electrode 3, a phosphor 4, a spacer 5, a grid 6a and a filament 7. As material for the grid 6a, a Ti-Ni shape memory alloy is used, and after etching, it is flattened at high temperature of more than a parent phase state, setting this temperature down to a range of 60-70 deg.C as a state temperature. Afterward, it is welded to the spacer 5, forming the grid 6a. Thus, this shaped memory alloy is used for the grid 6a. With this constitution, any deformation of the grid 6a is preventable, so that a major defect of an indicator, say, filament burnout and electrode burning due to deformation of the grid 6a can be brought to nothing.
