PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound economically in industrial scale and high yield under relatively mild operation conditions, by carry out a reaction in the presence of a specific compound in the system using 2-hydroxy-4- methyltetrahydropyran as a common raw material and product as a solvent. CONSTITUTION:When 2-hydroxy-4-methyltetrahydropyrane is reacted using an oxide (e.g. copperchrome oxide catalyst, etc.) of at least one metal selected from copper, chrome and zinc under a nonoxidative gas (e.g. nitrogen, etc.), preferably in 0.01-20 absolute pressure at 130-180 deg.C to provide the titled compound at the same time, the reaction is carried out in the presence of a compound expressed by the formula (m and n are not simultaneously 0; m+n is >=1 and <=30, especially preferably m+n is >=1 and <=1,000), preferably using reaction product as a reaction solvent while continuously feeding the raw material. The product is useful as an intermediate of a polyurethane raw material, raw material of modifier for coating or resin and intermediate of medicine, agricultural chemicals, perfume, etc. |
