PURPOSE:To obtain the titled resin in which halogen is removed under mild conditions without accompanying increase of viscosity and storage stability is improved, by treating an epoxy resin containing the residual halogen with a halogen-removing reagent in the presence of a specific phase transfer agent. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy resin containing residual halogen is treated with a halogen-removing reagent in the presence of a phase-transfer agent selected from (A) macrocyclic polyether compounds (e.g. 12-crown-4)which are crown ethers and cryptands, (B) straight-chain polyether compounds which are polyalkylene oxides, terminal alkylether compound thereof and polyetheramines and (C) a nonprotonic polar compound (e.g. triamide hexamethyl phosphate) normally at room temperature - 70 deg.C. The above-mentioned phase transfer agent is normally used in the ratio of 0.01-0.1 equivalent based on total halogen of the resin.
