The invention proposes a breathing aid intended to restore the spontaneous breathing of a patient. The inspiratory branch is separated by a non-return valve (22) during the expiratory phase, while maintaining a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) in order to avoid contamination of the inspiratory branch. The continuously flowing gas stream is passed during the expiratory phase into a reservoir which is at least partially emptied during the inspiratory phase.
