PURPOSE:To make it possible to form a vulcanizable rubber composition having excellent strengths which can not be attained by vulcanization of conventional NBR with an organic peroxide, by mixing a nitrile group-containing highly unsaturated copolymer rubber with an organic peroxide and a metal carboxylate. CONSTITUTION:A highly unsaturated ethylenically unsaturated nitrile/conjugated diene copolymer rubber of a conjugated diene unit content of at most 25wt.%, based on the polymer chain, is mixed with an organic peroxide and a metal salt of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid. Any organic peroxide can be used as said organic peroxide so far as it can be used in common vulcanization of rubber, and its amount of use is usually about 0.2-10pts.wt. per 100pts. wt. rubber. The amount of said metal salt of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid is preferably 3-100pts.wt. per 100pts.wt. rubber.
