PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of error in the control of fuel injection due to the vibration of the valve body of an inlet valve by constituting the captioned inlet valve so that the cross-sectional area of the flow passage between the upstream side passage and the inlet passage parts or the like can be reduced during the time from the supply of fuel to the fuel discharge starting of an injection pump. CONSTITUTION:An accumulator fuel injection apparatus comprises a fuel tank 1, a metering unit M, and a unit injector U. The unit injector U is made up of a fuel injection pump 6, an accumulator fuel injector 7, and the like. The fuel injection pump 6 has an inlet valve 10 on the upstream side of a pump chamber 9 in order to prevent the back-flow of fuel. In this case, the inlet valve 10 is so constituted that when fuel is supplied into the hollow part 32 of the inlet valve 10 via an upstream side passage 62 and inlet passage parts 30, 31, a plunger 8 is raised to a position higher than a prescribed top dead center. Thus, it is so contrived that respective cross-sectional areas of flow passages such as the connecting flow passage of passages 62, 30; and that of a passage 38 and a passage 46 leading to an accumulator chamber 48 for stabilizing energizing force can be reduced.
