Process for the hydrogenation of carbonyl-containing compounds at mild conditions of temperature and pressure to produce alcohols is disclosed, employing palladium and zinc-containing catalysts. Methods for the preparation of the palladium and zinc-containing catalysts useful for the desired reductive conversion are also disclosed.
