Method to reduce the emission of harmful substances, in particular for desulphurization, in the combustion of sulphurous coal which is transported as a coa/water suspension containing a coal component of more than 55 %-wt. over lengthy distances in a pipe line to the firing installation, in particular mineral coal, characterized in that a sulphur-bonding additive is added to the coal/water suspension in twice as great a quantity as would be necessary purely stoichiometrically on the basis of the sulphur content of the coal for the complete sulphur bond and the suspension is passed to the burner of the firing installation.
